It’s time to present another Londoner, another quality artist, another bag of great tracks. His name is Mi’das, aka Mike Davies, and he is determined to go far with his music. He has just released his third EP “Stronger”, part of “The Story So Far” series (composed of “Glow”, “Grow” and, of course, “Stronger”). We’ve got quite a lot to listen to! I really like the idea of creating some sort of musical itinerary throughout the three EPs that perfectly expresses the influences and the evolution of his music.

E’ tempo di presentare un altro londinese, un altro artista di qualità, altre buone canzoni. Il suo nome è Mike Davies, in arte Mi’das, ed è prontissimo per sfondare con la sua musica. Ha appena prodotto il suo terzo EP “Stronger”, parte della serie “The Story So Far” (composta da “Grow”, “Glow” e, appunto, “Stronger”). Trovo molto interessante l’idea di creare un percorso cronologico attraverso i tre dischi, che in qualche modo esplora e racconta l’evoluzione della sua musica.

You can perceive what his vocal capabilities are, moving from soulful low tones to higher pitches when the tempo gets stronger. His music is characterized by an always present intense instrumental component, that is the best asset to his great voice. The genre is pop, but with strong soul and r’n’b influences (as he says himself), that add that little energy and guitar riffs, needed to make a track orginal and different from the millions of mellow pop songs you could find anywhere. It’s like James Morrison meets James Bay (but without the James). Here are two examples taken from “Stronger”, which should be the end result of his musical evolution: “Too Little Too Late” and the more energic (and my personal favourite!) “Vienna”.
Nei brani si possono percepire le sue capacità vocali, muovendosi fra toni bassi e pacati sino a note alte quando il ritmo cresce. La sua musica è inoltre caratterizzata da una forte componente strumentale, sempre presente, che diventa un importante accompagnamento per la sua bella voce. Il genere è pop, ma con chiare influenze soul e r’n’b (come dice lui stesso nel video precedente), che aiutano ad aggiungere quell’energia e quei riff con la chiatarra necessari a rendere le sue canzoni diverse dai mille brani pop melensi che si possono trovare in giro. E’ come se James Morrisoon incontrasse James Bay (senza chiamarsi James). Ecco due esempi tratti da “Stronger”, che a suo dire è il risultato della sua evoluzione e sperimentazione musicale: “Too Little Too Late” e la più energica e mia preferita “Vienna”.
Now I would suggest to the more sensitive readers to prepare your Kleenex box. Here’s “Like You Did Then”, the song about the doubts and regrets you feel when a love story ends. With this mellow track he touches the deepest part of your heart, and if by any chance your day hasn’t been the best, you find yourself wanting to hear it on loop eating tons and tons of chocolate ice cream.
Per i lettori più sensibili suggerisco di tirare fuori la scatola di fazzoletti. Quella che segue (purtroppo non presente su youtube) è “Like You Did Then”, una canzone che racconta dei dubbi e rimpianti che nascono quando una storia d’amore finisce. Questo brano suadente tocca il cuore nel profondo, e se magari la giornata non è stata delle migliori, si finisce inevitabilmente a risentirla senza sosta mangiando chili e chili di gelato al cioccolato.
Let’s quickly move away from this gloomy mood and back a few months to his previous EP, “Grow”. In this set of songs you can undoubtedly recognise the soul component of his music. This is my favourite part of his music. Just let your hair down and lose yourself the awesome rhythmns of “Be Strong” and “Sun Don’t Shine”. Highly addictive!
Ci allontaniamo velocemente dalla tristezza e torniamo indietro di qualche mese all’EP precedente, “Grow”. In questo set di canzoni si può senza dubbio riconoscere la componente soul del suo passato. Questo lato di lui è quello che mi intriga di più. Rilassatevi e lasciatevi trasportare dall’euforia dei ritmi di “Be Strong” e “Sun Don’t Shine”. Da dipendenza!
I would suggest taking your time and enjoying also the rest of his songs from “Glow”. This guy has it all and we hope to hear more of him in the future.
Suggerisco di riascoltare anche il resto dei suoi brani, anche quelli di “Glow”. Questo ragazzo ha tutte le carte in regola e speriamo di sentirne parlare ancora in futuro.
