What’s On: Latest Single Releases

Many new singles have popped up unexpectedly in the last few days, so I figured we could bring up a short list just in case you missed some. It is not a comprehensive chart, but these few tracks are the ones I was most interested in, selected between the big names, the old friends and the newcomers.

Nell’ultimo periodo sono inaspettatamente spuntati molti nuovi singoli, per cui ho pensato che fosse utile creare una breve lista per evitare di perderli per strada. Non vuole essere una classifica completa, bensì sono esclusivamente le canzoni che considero più interessanti, selezionate fra i nomi più celebri, i vecchi amici e le novità.

1. Lady Ciccone is back! After the epic performance at the Brits (which I believe has brought her even more fame and celebrity, if that’s even possible), Madonna has now presented her new song “Ghosttown”, second single from her latest album “Rebel Heart”. Definitely more relaxed this time, she has nonetheless kept slow yet intense beats that cover an important role in this romantic track. Hopeful and sweet, a song about a love story that stays strong also when the rest of the world goes to waste.

La signora Ciccone è tornata! Dopo l’epica performance ai Brit Awards (che credo sia riuscita a portarle ulteriore fama e successo, se possibile), Madonna ha presentato il suo nuovo singolo “Ghosttown”, secondo brano tratto dall’ultimo album “Rebel Heart”. Brano decisamente più rilassato del suo predecessore, mantiene comunque la componente dei bassi in primo piano, nonostante sia una traccia dal sapore romantico. Dolce e ottimista, narra di una storia d’amore che resiste nonostante il resto del mondo vada in rovina.

 

 

2. My besties! Years & Years have presented their new single “Worship” along with official confirmation of the release date of their new album “Communion”, set for the 22nd of June. I thought they would’ve been a one hit wonder in my heart, but I’m still totally addicted to their music and to lead singer Olly Alexander’s voice, which blends perfectly with their electro pop vibes. This single follows the previous releases “Take Shelter”, “Desire”, “Real” and “King”, all big hits. Keeping the beats up, it fun and sensual in its own way. They simply never get one wrong.

Gli Years & Years hanno presentato il loto nuovo brano “Worship” insieme alla conferma ufficiale della data di pubblicazione del loro nuovo album “Communion”, fissata per il 22 Giugno. Pensavo fossero un fenomeno di passaggio nel mio cuore, invece sono ancora assuefatta dalla loro musica e dalla voce del frontman Olly Alexander, che si fonde benissimo con il loro stile electro pop. Questo singolo segue i precedenti successi “Take Shelter”, “Desire”, “Real” e “King”, tutti andati bene in classifica. Tenendo sempre alti i ritmi, questa canzone è divertente e sensuale a modo suo. Non ne sbagliano una!

 

 

3. London based electro pop singer Aaron is releasing today her new single “Borderline” (you can find it on bandcamp); we’ve heard her perform live in a few occasions and she has now paired up with producer Brey (Jesse Ware) for this retro vibe, delicate track. You immediately go back of a few decades, while her raffinate vocals caress you throughout this mellow track. The awaited debut EP “Letters To Jonny” is gonna follow on the 27th of April.

La cantante electro pop londinese Aaron ha presentato oggi il suo nuovo singolo “Borderline” (lo potete trovare su bandcamp); l’abbiamo sentita dal vivo già alcune volte in passato, e adesso la vediamo in collaborazione con il produttore Brey (Jesse Ware) per questo brano dal delicato stile retrò. Sin dalle prime note si viene trasportati indietro di qualche decade, mentre la sua raffinata voce ci accompagna lungo tutta questa suadente e rilassata canzone. L’atteso EP di debutto “Letters To Jonny” seguirà il 27 Aprile.

4. Nothing But Thieves have recently presented their latest single “Itch” (although it is part of their “Graveyard Whistling” EP, which we already talked about quite some time ago), and as we said previously we’ve always appreciated their easy indie/pop/rock style. This track demonstrates its instrumental power (thier “rock” side) all along, and the vocals add value and strength, sometimes what sounds like an obsessive twitch.

Nothing But Thieves hanno recentemente presentato il loro ultimo singolo “Itch” (anche se è parte di dell’EP “Graveyard Whistling”, di cui abbiamo già parlato qualche tempo fa), e come abbiamo detto precedentemente abbiamo sempre apprezzato il loro stile indie/pop/rock senza pretese. Questo brano dimostra sempre il potere della componente strumentale (animo “rock”), e la voce del frontman aggiungono valore e forza all’insieme, talvolta aggiungendo un qualcosa che ricorda un’ossessione, una fissazione, un pensiero che non si riesce a togliere dalla testa.

 

 

5. Blur have reveales another single from the much awaited new album “The Magic Whip”, due the 27th of April. This is “Lomesone Street”, that follows the previous tracks “Go Out” and “There Are Too Many Of Us” that were quite different in style; this time we get an ironic yet cheerful track that can somehow make you smile. Going back to good old school Blur.

I Blur hanno rivelato il loro nuovo singolo dal tanto atteso album “The Magic Whip”, in uscita il 27 di Aprile. Questo brano si chiama “Lomesone Street”, e segue i tracce precedenti “Go Out” e “There Are Too Many Of Us”, dallo stile molto differente. Questa volta ci propongono una canzone ironica ma molto allegra, che fa sorridere. Insomma si ritorna ai Blur della vecchia scuola. 

 

 

6. Jumping rapidly from happiness to depression… Death Cab For A Cutie (soundtrack of my high school years!) are back with their eighth album, “Kintsugi”. This exotic word resembles the japanese art of fixing broken ceramics enhancing the cracks, with the aim to keep the history of the object as an added value, and I believe it’s a metaphore of the phase the band is going through (also due to the separation from guitarrist Chris Walla). “Little Wanderer” is the fourth single from this album and it turns out to be a melancholic romantic ballad about a long distance relationship.

Saltando repentinamente dalla gioia alla depressione… i Death Cab For A Cutie (colonna sonora dei miei anni di liceo!) sono tornati con il loro ottavo album “Kintsugi”. Questa parola dal gusto esotico è il concetto giapponese di aggiustare i cocci di ceramica esaltandone le crepe, in modo da sottolinearne la storia e renderla un punto di forza dell’oggetto. Presumo che voglia essere una metafora della fase di transizione che questa band sta attraversando, anche dovuta all’abbandono dello storico chitarrista Chris Walla.  “Little Wanderer” è il quarto singolo tratto da questo album e risulta essere una romantica e maliconica ballata che racconta di una storia d’amore a distanza.
